A Bright Primary Bath with Warm Gold Accents

Some bathrooms just have great light, and this one had plenty of it. With windows on two walls and a long one stretched right above the tub, our job was to build something that would make the most of all that sunshine. We kept the palette soft and light, then brought in brushed gold to give it some warmth.

His and hers vanities

Instead of one long double vanity, the owners asked for two separate stations on opposite walls. It’s one of our favorite layouts for a primary bath because nobody is bumping elbows in the morning. Both vanities are white shaker cabinets with a stack of drawers on one side and a double door cabinet underneath the sink. The quartz tops have a soft taupe and gold vein that ties right into the hardware, faucets, and the rounded gold frame mirrors above each sink.

The tub corner

The freestanding tub sits under that long window, and it’s easily the best seat in the house. Behind it we ran a white fan shaped tile up about halfway, finished with a quartz ledge that gives the owners a spot for candles or a book. Above the ledge, large light gray porcelain panels go all the way to the ceiling. A wall mounted gold tub filler and handheld sprayer keep the floor around the tub clean and open.

The shower

The walk in shower is wrapped in the same large gray porcelain, with a frameless glass enclosure held together by gold clamps and a matching gold handle. We used quartz for the curb and the cap on the knee wall that separates the shower from the tub, so the stone carries through from the vanities. Inside there’s a rain shower head, a handheld wand, a recessed niche, and a linear drain that lets the floor tile run in big clean pieces without any slope lines breaking it up.

A few finishing touches

The toilet has its own private room off the main bath, and the large format floor tile runs through the whole space, which makes it feel even bigger than it is.
