Classic White Kitchen with a Dark Wood Waterfall Island
This family loved their home but their kitchen was holding them back. They cook every day, they have people over often, and they wanted a space that could keep up. The look they had in mind was simple: clean, classic, and bright, with one piece that really stands out.
That piece is the island. We built it in a deep espresso stained shaker cabinet and wrapped it in white quartz with waterfall edges dropping to the floor on both ends. The stone has a bold gold and gray vein that runs across the top and down the sides, so it almost looks like one solid block. On the working side there’s a full bank of deep drawers for pots and pans, and the other side has room for stools so the kids can do homework while dinner’s going.
The rest of the kitchen is white shaker cabinetry with crown molding on top and long brushed gold pulls. We carried the same quartz straight up the wall as a full height backsplash, which means no grout to scrub around the sink or the cooktop.
The cooking wall was all about function. We stacked a double wall oven into a tall cabinet, built the microwave into the uppers so it sits flush, and framed the side by side refrigerator with cabinets above and on the sides so it looks built in. The induction cooktop sits on the corner run, close enough to the sink and the island that nothing is more than a step or two away.
It’s the kind of kitchen that looks great in photos but, more importantly, works hard every single day.
