Espresso Shaker Kitchen with Lit Glass Cabinets
Dark kitchens can feel heavy if they’re not done right. This one feels warm, rich, and surprisingly bright, and that comes down to a few smart choices.
One color, done well
Every cabinet in this kitchen is a deep espresso stained shaker, and you can still see the wood grain coming through the finish. Instead of mixing colors, we kept it all one tone and let the contrast come from the stone and the hardware. Long brass bar pulls run across every door and drawer, and crown molding finishes the cabinets at the top.
Light where it counts
With cabinets this dark, lighting was a big part of the plan. We added warm LED strips under every upper cabinet, so the white quartz backsplash glows at night. Several of the uppers have glass doors with glass shelves and their own interior lights, which turns them into little display cases and breaks up the long run of dark wood. Above the sink, an arched valance frames the faucet and gives the window wall a classic touch.
The stone
White quartz with soft gray veining covers the counters and runs all the way up the wall as a full backsplash. Against the espresso cabinets, it really pops. A workstation sink with a gold spring faucet sits right in the middle, and the cooktop is on the corner run with drawers below for pots and pans.
An island with a surprise
The big island has waterfall quartz on both ends, and from the kitchen side it looks like simple cabinetry. Walk around to the back, though, and you’ll find two built in wall ovens tucked underneath the counter, with a narrow pull out cabinet between them for trays and baking sheets. It’s a great setup for anyone who bakes or cooks for a crowd.
Storage and extras
Next to the refrigerator, we built a full wall of tall pantry cabinets that stretch to the ceiling. And on the other side of the room there’s a separate coffee station with its own glass front uppers, lighting, and quartz counter, so the morning routine stays out of the main kitchen.
The result
A dark, dramatic kitchen that still feels warm and inviting, with storage everywhere and a few surprises along the way.
