European Handleless Kitchen with High Gloss Cabinets and a Stepped Waterfall Island
This waterfront home called for a kitchen that felt as open and modern as the views outside. The homeowners love clean lines, contemporary art and entertaining, so we designed a completely handleless European kitchen built around three distinct zones: a sleek storage wall, a multi level island and a dedicated cooking station looking out toward the water.
The Storage Wall
The first thing you notice is the floor to ceiling wall of high gloss grey cabinets. With no visible hardware, the doors read as one smooth, reflective surface that bounces natural light around the room and even mirrors the lake views from across the space. Behind those panels the homeowners have a pantry, appliance storage and plenty of room for everything else. The refrigerator sits right into the wall so the whole run looks completely built in, and crown molding ties the cabinetry into the architecture of the home.
The Island
The island is a true custom piece. We designed it on two levels: a raised section with the sink and a filtered water faucet facing the storage wall, and a long lower table extending out into the room. Both are wrapped in a bright white quartz with soft veining that drops down every open end in a waterfall edge, framing the warm wood grain panels underneath. The stepped design creates a natural separation between the working side of the kitchen and the gathering side, so guests can sit and chat while the host cooks just a few feet away.
The Cooking Zone
On the other side of the room, we created a separate cooking area that feels like a chef’s station. A gas cooktop is set into its own waterfall peninsula under a large stainless island hood, with French doors right beside it opening to the patio and the water beyond.
Behind it, the back wall is pure drama. We installed a large slab backsplash with bold white, grey and gold veining that stretches the full length of the counter like a piece of art. Above it, high gloss white handleless cabinets keep the look light and simple, and below, warm wood grain drawers with slim aluminum channels provide deep storage. A built in wine fridge sits right in the middle of the run, ready for entertaining.
The Result
The finished kitchen is bright, sophisticated and perfectly suited to waterfront living, with a smart layout that makes cooking for two or hosting a crowd feel effortless.
