Warm Modern Kitchen with a Wood Slat Waterfall Island and Dark Stone Backsplash

This new home called for a kitchen that felt modern and sophisticated but still warm enough to live in every day. The homeowners loved natural textures and a rich, layered look, so we combined three cabinet finishes, two contrasting stone surfaces and one standout island to create a kitchen that feels both bold and inviting.

The Cabinet Wall

The entire back wall is wrapped in European style flat panel cabinets in a warm wood grain. They run from floor to ceiling in stacked rows, giving the homeowners an incredible amount of storage while turning the whole wall into one clean, architectural feature. The refrigerator and the double wall ovens are built right into the wood, so the appliances feel like part of the design rather than something added on. Slim black pulls keep the look minimal.

Around the cooking zone, we switched things up. The upper cabinets beside the hood are a matte charcoal grey with no visible hardware, and the lower drawers below the cooktop are a soft cream with a handleless design and recessed aluminum channels. The mix of wood, charcoal and cream gives the wall depth and makes the cooking area feel like its own special space.

The Backsplash

Behind the cooktop, we installed a dark stone slab with striking copper and gold veining. It is dramatic, moody and absolutely beautiful, especially next to the warm wood and the charcoal cabinets. A glass and stainless chimney hood floats in front of it, keeping the focus on the stone. Below, a sleek induction cooktop sits flush in the light countertop.

The Island

The island is the true showpiece. We topped it with a white quartz with warm golden veining that drops down both ends in a waterfall edge. Our team carefully matched the veins as they wrap around the corners, so the stone flows naturally from the top down the sides.

On the seating side, we finished the island with vertical wood slats that echo the warm tones of the cabinet wall and add texture and rhythm to the room. Black outlets are set right into the slats and the waterfall ends, so they blend in instead of standing out. On the working side, a black workstation sink and a matte black faucet complete the modern look.

Lighting

A black linear chandelier with clear glass shades hangs above the island, adding a touch of elegance and tying in with the black hardware, faucet and outlets throughout the room.

The Result

The finished kitchen is warm, modern and full of texture, with a floor to ceiling wood wall, a dramatic stone backsplash and a waterfall island that feels like a piece of custom furniture.
