Modern Kitchen and Custom Media Wall Remodel
This project started in the kitchen and ended up taking over the living room too, which is usually a sign that the homeowners love what they are seeing. They wanted a clean, modern look throughout the main living space, with warm wood accents and plenty of spots to show off the art and sculptures they have collected over the years.
The Kitchen
We designed the kitchen around flat panel cabinets in a soft white finish with a subtle wood grain texture. From across the room they look sleek and simple, but up close that texture adds a lot of depth. Long brushed steel pulls run across the drawers and give the space a crisp European feel. The lower cabinets are almost all drawers, which the owners told us has completely changed the way they cook. No more digging through the back of a deep cabinet for a pot.
For the countertops we chose a white quartz with soft gray veining and carried it all the way up the wall as a full slab backsplash. It keeps the room bright and makes cleanup about as easy as it gets. Under the window, a stainless workstation sink with a built in grid and a spring faucet looks right out onto the tropical backyard.
The peninsula opens the kitchen up to the dining room and hides a microwave drawer, so it stays out of sight but still within easy reach. At the end of the run, we added chunky wood floating shelves with recessed lights. They warm up all that white and give the owners a perfect place to display their colorful glass pieces.
The Living Room
Once the kitchen was done, the owners asked us to give their living room the same treatment. We built a floor to ceiling wood slat accent wall that instantly became the centerpiece of the room. The TV mounts right onto the slats so the wall does all the talking.
Below it, a floating media console with handleless white doors keeps every cable, remote and device hidden away. We topped it with a dramatic deep blue stone that picks up the ocean tones in the room and adds a real touch of luxury. On both sides of the slat wall, white floating shelves with built in lighting turn the owners’ sculptures into little gallery displays, especially in the evening.
The kitchen and living room now feel like they were designed together from day one, with the same clean lines, warm wood and thoughtful lighting carried through the whole space.
