Open Concept Kitchen with Two Islands, a Built In Bar and a Fireplace Wall

This family loves to entertain, and their home was ready for a kitchen that could keep up. They wanted one big, open space where cooking, dining, relaxing and hosting all happen together. We designed a kitchen with two islands, a full built in bar and media wall, and a cozy fireplace corner, all tied together with a clean, modern palette.

The Main Kitchen

Along the cooking wall, we installed white shaker cabinets with crown molding and matte black pulls. Tall pantry cabinets frame both ends of the run, giving the family plenty of storage, and the refrigerator is set into the cabinetry with storage above. Deep drawers sit on both sides of the range for pots, pans and utensils.

Behind the range, we ran a white quartz with soft grey and gold veining up the wall as a full slab backsplash. A slim hood is tucked under the cabinets so the stone stays front and center, and a bold black range adds a striking contrast against all that white.

Island One: The Work Island

The first island is where most of the action happens. It holds a large workstation sink with a black spring faucet, the dishwasher and a microwave drawer, so prep and cleanup are all in one spot. The quartz top wraps down both ends in a waterfall edge. On the seating side, we finished the base with warm wood panels and black vertical slats, which adds texture and a modern touch that really stands out. Three stools tuck underneath for casual meals and conversation.

Island Two: The Gathering Island

A second island sits just beyond the first, giving the family even more space for serving, buffets and extra seating. We finished it in a soft greige shaker with lots of deep drawers and topped it with the same veined quartz. The warm, neutral color complements the white cabinets and connects the kitchen to the living areas.

The Built In Bar and Media Wall

On the far wall, we created a custom bar and entertainment center. White shaker cabinets frame a recessed TV, with a floating wood shelf above. Glass front cabinets display glassware, and an open niche with a textured backing shows off the homeowners’ favorite bottles. A tall wine fridge is built right into the wall, and floating wood shelves on both sides add a place for photos and decor. It is the perfect spot for movie nights and holiday gatherings.

The Fireplace Wall

Next to the kitchen, we added a whitewashed wood plank accent wall with a linear fireplace and a floating wood mantel. It brings a warm, cozy feel to the open space and gives the family room its own focal point.

Finishing Touches

Clear glass pendants hang over both islands, adding sparkle without blocking the view across the room. Large format grey porcelain tile runs throughout the space, connecting the kitchen, bar and living areas into one seamless open plan.

The Result

The finished space is bright, modern and made for entertaining, with two islands, a built in bar, a fireplace corner and room for everyone to gather.
