Two Tone Grey and White Kitchen with a Full Slab Quartz Backsplash
This family wanted a kitchen that felt fresh, clean and easy to keep that way. Their home has an open floor plan with the kitchen flowing right into the living room, so it was important that the new design looked polished from every angle. We went with a classic two tone look and a few smart details that make the whole space feel bright and put together.
Cabinets
The upper cabinets are white with a recessed panel door and crown molding on top. We staggered the heights along the back wall, which adds depth and gives the kitchen a custom, furniture style feel. Next to the window, two glass front cabinets break up the solid doors and offer a nice spot to display dishes.
Below, the base cabinets and the island are finished in a soft grey that adds contrast and keeps everyday wear from showing. We also used grey for the cabinet above the refrigerator, which frames the fridge and ties the upper and lower colors together. Arched satin nickel pulls run throughout for a classic, comfortable grip. To finish the look, we painted the pantry doors in the same grey so they blend right in with the cabinetry.
Countertops and Backsplash
The countertops are a bright white quartz with a soft rounded edge that is comfortable to lean on and easy on little hands. Instead of tile, we carried the same quartz up the wall as a full slab backsplash. There are no grout lines to scrub, and the clean surface makes the kitchen feel even brighter and more open.
The Island
The island is generously sized with plenty of cabinet storage on both sides and a wide overhang for seating. It works as a prep station during the week and a buffet when the family entertains, and its grey base matches the perimeter cabinets so the room feels balanced.
Flooring
To complete the transformation, we installed large format porcelain tile in a polished marble look throughout the kitchen and living area. The glossy white surface with soft grey veining reflects the natural light and makes the open space feel larger.
The Result
The finished kitchen is bright, organized and low maintenance, with a timeless two tone design that will look great for many years.
