Two Tone Kitchen with a Custom Wood Hood and Waterfall Peninsula
With a soaring vaulted ceiling and sliding doors that open to the patio, this kitchen had a great setting from the start. The homeowners wanted a design that would make the most of that height, add a lot more storage and bring in some bold contrast. We created a two tone kitchen that feels dramatic and elegant while staying bright and welcoming.
Stacked Cabinets
To take full advantage of the tall walls, we installed white shaker cabinets stacked in two tiers. The top row has glass fronts with interior lighting, which adds a soft glow near the ceiling and gives the homeowners a place to display glassware and decorative pieces. Below, the solid doors hold everyday dishes within easy reach. Tall cabinets on the left wall house the refrigerator and a pair of wall ovens, so the whole wall looks fully built in.
Bold Lower Cabinets
For the lower cabinets and the peninsula, we went with a deep charcoal shaker finish. It grounds the room and creates a striking contrast with the white uppers. Brushed gold pulls on every door and drawer add warmth and a touch of luxury to both colors. We also added lighting under the toe kicks, so at night the base cabinets look like they are floating just above the floor.
The Range Hood
The centerpiece of the cooking wall is a custom wood hood with horizontal planks in a rich, dark stain. It adds natural texture and warmth, picks up the dark tones in the lower cabinets and stands out beautifully against the white cabinetry on either side. Below it, a sleek induction cooktop is set into the countertop.
Countertops and Backsplash
The countertops are a white quartz with bold grey veining that brings the look of marble with much less maintenance. We ran the same quartz up the walls as a full slab backsplash, so the veins flow from the counters right up to the cabinets. Under cabinet lighting makes the stone glow and highlights every line.
The Peninsula
The peninsula wraps around the kitchen and offers seating for four, making it the perfect spot for breakfast, homework or chatting with whoever is cooking. The quartz drops down the end in a waterfall edge for a clean, modern finish. A black undermount sink with a matte black faucet sits under the window, keeping the cleanup zone right where it is needed.
The Result
The finished kitchen is bright, bold and beautifully balanced, with stacked cabinets that celebrate the high ceiling, a custom wood hood that adds warmth and a waterfall peninsula that brings everyone together.
