Warm Wood and Soft Arches: A Modern Kitchen with Curves
Most modern kitchens are all straight lines. This one has curves, and that’s exactly what makes it special. The homeowners wanted something warm and calm with a little bit of personality, and the arches ended up being the detail everyone notices first.
The arches
On the cooking wall, the upper cabinets open up into a rounded arch right over the range, framing the stainless hood like a little alcove. Across the room, the uppers wrap around the window over the sink with the same soft curve. It’s a simple idea, but it takes the kitchen from nice to memorable, and it gives the whole room a relaxed, almost Mediterranean feel.
Two finishes, one look
The base cabinets and tall pantries are a warm wood grain slab door with a fine vertical grain that runs straight up each panel. The uppers are a soft greige with no hardware at all, so they almost blend into the wall and let the arches do the talking. For the lower cabinets, we used black crescent shaped pulls that are set right into the doors. They look a bit like little half moons, and they’re one of those details that make people stop and ask about them.
Texture on the walls
For the backsplash, we chose a fluted tile with thin vertical ribs. With the under cabinet lighting on, the light catches every line and the wall almost glows. It also echoes the vertical grain in the wood, so everything feels connected.
Built for the way they cook
The refrigerator is framed by tall pantry cabinets with storage stacked above it, and on the other end of the wall there’s a second full height pantry, so the counters stay clear. A double oven range sits in the middle, perfect for cooking two things at once. Along the window wall, a workstation sink sits under the arch, and the counter turns into a peninsula with a white quartz waterfall edge that opens right into the family room.
The result
A kitchen that feels warm, modern, and a little unexpected, with curves and textures that make it feel truly custom.
