White and Natural Oak Kitchen with a Statement Waterfall Island
This kitchen opens right onto the family room and the pool, so the homeowners wanted something bright, relaxed, and big enough for everyone to gather. The answer was a long waterfall island, a clean white kitchen, and a touch of natural wood to warm it all up.
The island
It’s hard to miss. The island stretches almost the full length of the kitchen, with white quartz waterfall edges dropping to the floor on both ends and seating for five along one side. On the working side, we used a light natural oak cabinet instead of white, which gives the island its own personality. Tucked into that side are a dishwasher, a microwave drawer, and plenty of deep drawers. A big workstation sink with a champagne bronze faucet sits right in the middle.
The cooking wall
Along the back wall, white shaker cabinets with crown molding run on both sides of a stainless chimney hood. Several of the uppers have frosted glass doors, which lighten up the wall and hide whatever’s inside. White quartz runs from the counters all the way up as a full backsplash, and there’s a pot filler mounted above the range, so filling a big pot of water never means carrying it across the kitchen. Champagne bronze pulls tie everything back to the faucet.
The oak wall
On the other end of the kitchen, we built a tall wall of light oak cabinetry around the refrigerator, with pantry storage stacked to the ceiling. Next to it, a little coffee nook has open floating shelves in the same oak, so it feels like part of the design instead of an afterthought.
Extra storage around the house
We also found a few spots outside the kitchen that were wasting space. In two wall niches near the hallway, we built white shaker pantry cabinets with the same bronze hardware, so they look like they’ve always been part of the house.
The result
A bright, open kitchen that’s made for gathering, with a mix of white and natural wood that feels fresh and warm at the same time.
