White Gloss and Charcoal: A Sharp, Modern Kitchen
This home called for something crisp. The owners wanted a kitchen with real contrast, the kind of space that looks clean and bright but still has some weight to it. So we went with a simple formula: glossy white up top, deep charcoal down below, and a few textured details to keep it from feeling cold.
The kitchen
The upper cabinets are a high gloss white and stack all the way to the ceiling, which makes the room feel taller and gives the owners plenty of storage they can actually reach with a step stool. Underneath, the base cabinets are a charcoal gloss with long black pulls. That dark band along the bottom grounds the whole kitchen and does a great job hiding scuffs from everyday life.
Between the two, we ran a white hexagon backsplash all the way up behind the range hood. It adds pattern without adding noise, and it looks great with the soft gray veining in the quartz countertops.
The island is the real showpiece. It has waterfall quartz on both ends and a front panel of weathered gray wood slats that bring some texture into an otherwise sleek room. A workstation sink and a matte black faucet handle the busy side, and a long wooden light fixture hangs overhead, which warms everything up when the sun goes down.
The little extras
Next to the fridge we built a coffee and snack station with a drawer microwave tucked into the lower cabinets, a black floating shelf, and the same hex tile on the wall. The fridge itself is framed in tall white cabinetry so it sits flush with everything around it.
Across the room there’s a dry bar in charcoal gloss with a built in wine fridge in the middle and a quartz top. It’s perfect for entertaining, and it keeps guests out of the cook’s way.
Living room feature wall
In the living room we put together a full wall panel for the TV, with a dark wood grain center flanked by two columns of gray slats. It matches the island across the room and gives the open floor plan a clear focal point.
Bathrooms and laundry
The bathrooms follow the same palette. Dark gloss vanities, white quartz tops, vessel sinks, and black faucets, with large marble look tile in the showers. The primary bath has a freestanding tub set right under the window. Even the laundry room got matching white gloss cabinets above the washer and dryer.
