White Shaker Kitchen with a Greige Island and Glass Mosaic Backsplash
This family loves to cook, and they wanted a kitchen that could keep up with them. Their old layout had plenty of space but not nearly enough storage, and the finishes were showing their age. So we started fresh with a design that is bright, practical and full of little details that make daily life easier.
We lined the walls with white shaker cabinets and took the uppers up high to make the most of every inch. Matte black bar pulls give the white a sharp, modern edge. Next to the wall oven and microwave combo, we added deep drawers that hold pots, pans and bulky small appliances, so the counters stay clear.
For the island we went with a warm greige shaker finish. It adds a soft contrast to all the white and pairs nicely with the wood look flooring. The island top is a white quartz with gentle veining, and we built in an undermount sink with a matte black pull down faucet. One of the owners’ favorite touches is the pop up outlet on the island, perfect for charging phones or plugging in a mixer without hunting for a wall plug. There is room for three stools, which makes it the go to spot for breakfast and homework.
The backsplash brings the whole room together. It is a glass and stone mini brick mosaic in shades of white, gold, gray and soft blue. We ran it all the way up behind the stainless hood to the ceiling to create a real focal point over the cooktop. With the under cabinet lighting turned on, the glass pieces sparkle and the colors really come alive.
To finish it off, a black and gold linear chandelier hangs over the island and ties in the black hardware and the golden tones in the tile. It is a kitchen that feels fresh and polished but still warm enough to gather in every day.
