White Shaker Kitchen with a Stained Wood Island and Marble Arabesque Backsplash
The homeowners wanted a kitchen that felt crisp and bright but still had some warmth and character. Their old kitchen was dark and short on storage, so we focused on a clean white design with lots of cabinets and then brought in natural wood and stone to keep it from feeling cold.
Cabinets
We lined the walls with white shaker cabinets, taking the uppers up high with crown molding on top for maximum storage. Tall pantry cabinets beside the refrigerator hold everything from dry goods to small appliances, and the fridge is framed with a cabinet above so it looks built right in. In the corner, a glass front cabinet with interior lighting adds a soft glow and breaks up the long run of solid doors. Matte black pulls give the white cabinets a sharp, modern edge.
The Island
For the island, we wanted contrast. We chose a rich, dark stained wood shaker finish that shows off the natural grain and adds real warmth to the room. On top, a bright white quartz with soft veining and a thick edge gives the island a solid, substantial look. A workstation sink with a stainless pull down faucet makes it the main prep area, and outlets built into the side keep small appliances and chargers within reach. There is plenty of space for stools, so the island doubles as the family’s favorite spot for breakfast and homework.
Backsplash
The backsplash is a marble arabesque mosaic in soft white and grey. The lantern shape adds a graceful pattern, and the natural stone brings subtle variation and texture across the wall. With the under cabinet lighting on, the marble glows and highlights every curve.
The Result
The finished kitchen is bright, clean and full of storage, with a warm wood island and an elegant stone backsplash that give it personality. It is a classic design that will feel fresh for many years.
