White Shaker Kitchen with an Oversized Wood Island
This family wanted a kitchen big enough for everyday cooking, homework, holiday meals and everything in between. The room had great natural light from sliding doors that open to the backyard, so we designed a bright white kitchen with lots of storage and one very generous island right in the middle.
Cabinets and Storage
Along the perimeter, we installed white shaker cabinets with crown molding at the top. In the corner, a full wall of tall pantry cabinets wraps around and gives the family an incredible amount of storage for groceries, small appliances and household supplies. The refrigerator sits neatly between cabinets with storage above for a clean, built in look.
On the cooking wall, two glass front cabinets with glass shelves flank the hood, adding a lighter touch and a spot to display glassware and favorite dishes. Matte black pulls on every door and drawer give the white cabinetry a crisp, modern contrast.
The Cooking Wall
A stainless chimney hood with a curved glass canopy sits above the range. Behind it, we ran a white quartz with soft grey veining up the wall as a full slab backsplash, so the whole wall feels clean and seamless and cleanup after cooking is quick and easy.
The Island
The island is the true centerpiece of this kitchen. It is wide and long, with warm wood stained shaker cabinets on both sides, giving the family storage everywhere they turn. The natural wood brings warmth into the bright white room and creates a beautiful contrast with the perimeter cabinets.
On top, a white quartz with gentle grey and warm veining stretches across the whole surface and drops down the end in a waterfall edge. A large undermount sink with a matte black spring faucet makes the island the main prep and cleanup station, and an outlet built into the side keeps small appliances within reach. With so much counter space, it easily doubles as a buffet or a spot for the whole family to gather.
Flooring
To finish the space, we installed light wood look tile that runs through the kitchen and living areas. It brings a soft, natural tone to the room and holds up beautifully to daily life.
The Result
The finished kitchen is bright, warm and incredibly functional, with a full pantry wall, glass display cabinets and an oversized wood island that is ready for anything.
