Wood and White Kitchen with a Black Accent Peninsula

This home had a great open floor plan, but the kitchen felt closed off and outdated. The homeowners wanted a bright, modern space that would connect to the living and dining areas and give them more room to cook and gather. We redesigned the kitchen with a long peninsula at its center and a fresh mix of warm wood, crisp white and bold black accents.

Cabinets

We went with a two tone design. The upper cabinets are white shaker, which keeps the walls light and open. For the lower cabinets, we chose a warm medium wood stain that adds natural character and keeps the kitchen from feeling too stark. On the far wall, tall wood pantry cabinets frame the refrigerator, with a cabinet above for a fully built in look. Matte black pulls run throughout and tie both finishes together.

Beside the window, two black floating shelves add a modern touch and give the homeowners a spot to display dishes, plants or cookbooks.

The Backsplash

For the backsplash, we chose a marble look tile in long rectangular pieces with bold grey and soft gold veining. It adds movement and a touch of luxury, and it pairs beautifully with both the white uppers and the warm wood below.

The Peninsula

The peninsula is the heart of this kitchen. It holds a sleek induction cooktop with a wall oven tucked right underneath, so the cook can face the living room while preparing meals. The white quartz countertop stretches across the entire length and drops down the end in a waterfall edge. On the living room side, we finished the panel in a deep black, which creates a striking contrast against the white quartz and the light floors. Outlets are built right into the panel for convenience.

Two black and brass cone pendants hang above, adding a modern finishing touch that ties in with the black and brass faucet at the sink.

Flooring and Finishes

To bring the whole space together, we installed light wood look flooring throughout the kitchen and living areas. Fresh paint, new baseboards and recessed lighting complete the transformation and make the open plan feel bright and connected.

The Result

The finished kitchen is warm, modern and open, with a long peninsula that brings everyone together and a mix of wood, white and black that gives the space real personality.
