Project Information
Warm Walnut Kitchen with a Sage Green Picket Tile Backsplash
Some clients come to us wanting white everything. These homeowners wanted the opposite. They were looking for warmth, a little color and a kitchen that felt modern without feeling cold, so we built the whole design around natural wood and a backsplash with real personality.
The cabinets are flat panel doors in a rich walnut finish, with the grain running across every door and drawer. We kept the hardware simple with slim dark bar pulls so nothing competes with the wood. The tall cabinets on the left house a double wall oven, which frees up the main run for prep and cooking.
The backsplash is what everyone notices first. We used a glossy picket tile in a soft sage green and installed it vertically, so the pointed ends create a subtle zigzag line across the wall and draw the eye upward. The glaze catches the light from the window and the under shelf lighting, so the color shifts a little throughout the day. In the corner nook by the toaster oven, we switched to a deeper charcoal tile to give that spot its own identity.
For the countertops we chose a clean white quartz that keeps the room bright and balances all that wood and green. The stainless steel farmhouse sink has a built in ledge for cutting boards and racks, which makes it as practical as it is good looking. A spring faucet sits right in front of the glass block window, and a sleek induction cooktop with a stainless hood finishes off the cooking zone.
We added floating walnut shelves on either side of the hood with lights tucked underneath, perfect for plants, cookbooks and everyday dishes. The result is a kitchen that feels warm, a bit unexpected and completely made for the people who live there.

It is the kind of kitchen that feels good to walk into every morning. Lots of natural light, a little bit of personality, and finishes that will still look right years from now.
